This Shapinsay Speaks website is not intended to offer a comprehensive history of our island but a snapshot from our past on all kinds of different topics from the seriously snowy winters of ‘yesteryear to the changes in farming, entertainment or even funeral traditions. The recollections are from eye witness ‘reporters’ told through their own eyes and from their own viewpoints. Accuracy of the details cannot always be guaranteed for this is living history and how folks remember events and the past will vary which makes their accounts all the more richer and rewarding to listen to.
